As an enthusiastic and inspiring individual, you’ll be joining UWE Bristol’s successful, multidisciplinary Public Health academic team, leading modules and delivering high quality teaching and assessment across our MSc Public Health, the BSc Public Health Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship, and our international MSc Public Health partnership programme.
The Public Health programmes have strong synergy with our Environmental Health and Specialist Community Public Health Nursing programmes, which are co‑located within the School of Health and Social Wellbeing. This creates a collaborative and supportive environment for teaching, curriculum development, and professional education.
This is your opportunity to work with diverse learners, contribute to programme development, supervise student research, and join an ambitious academic team committed to inclusive practice. It is a strong fit for someone seeking a student‑focused academic role where their expertise can contribute to the development of the future public health workforce and support positive outcomes for communities.
The Public and Environmental Health teams also form the core membership of UWE Bristol’s Centre for Public Health and Wellbeing, which conducts interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange with a focus on reducing inequalities. Find out more information on our research themes and current projects here.
Enthusiasm and an ability to inspire learners are central to this role, and a flexible and adaptable approach to teaching is important, along with a strong commitment to enhancing student experience.
Expertise in key areas of public health practice is essential. You can teach in the areas of communicable and non‑communicable disease epidemiology and management, and health protection. An interest in international education is also welcomed, as we are also looking for someone who is willing and able to join our flying faculty and deliver teaching internationally when required.
A commitment to maintaining academic credibility and currency is important. At UWE Bristol, this involves developing your career through a combination of teaching excellence, research, scholarly or practice activity, knowledge exchange, external engagement, and academic citizenship, all grounded in the University’s values.
At Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, a strong focus on teaching excellence is expected. This includes designing and delivering engaging, inclusive, and innovative learning experiences, achieving positive student outcomes, and undertaking high‑quality research, scholarship, or practice activity that informs both your subject area and your teaching.
You’ll be based at our modern Frenchay Campus and spend most of your time on campus, although you may have the opportunity to work from home with the agreement of your people manager.
