The University is seeking to appoint an Assurance and Compliance Manager to play a key role in strengthening assurance and compliance arrangements within the University's Research Office. The post is based within the Assurance, Risk and Compliance function and offers an opportunity to contribute to the continued development of robust, proportionate, and effective frameworks to support the University's research activities in an increasingly complex regulatory, contractual, and legislative environment.
Working closely with colleagues across the Research Office, Finance Division, Governance and Compliance Division and the Schools and Departments across the wider University, the postholder will support the delivery of the Research Office's strategic objectives and annual plan, contributing to the development of a sustainable and fit-for-purpose risk and assurance framework to underpin the future target operating model.
The successful candidate will provide expert advice on assurance and compliance matters, design and monitor appropriate controls, and ensure alignment with relevant regulatory, contractual, and legislative requirements. The role will lead on aspects of the Research Office's risk management framework, including management of the Risk Register and annual assurance work plan, and will coordinate and oversee the timely delivery of Research Office-related internal audit activity. The postholder will also support internal governance processes, providing assurance to senior leadership that devolved activities are operating within approved schemes of delegation.
In addition, the role will contribute to investigations and reviews relating to assurance, compliance, or suspected fraud, and will act as a key point of contact for Freedom of Information requests relevant to the Research Office.
Applicants will have experience of working in, or contributing to, a risk, audit, compliance, assurance, legal, or investigative function within a large and complex organisation. The role requires strong analytical capability, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to engage confidently with colleagues at all levels of the institution. The successful candidate will demonstrate effective organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet regulatory and operational deadlines.
Candidates will be educated to degree level or equivalent, with a relevant professional qualification being desirable.
