About the role
An opportunity has arisen to provide maternity cover for an existing role as research administrative assistant in the Cancer Section labs at the Zayed Centre in the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. The postholder will have the opportunity to be, on a part time basis, integrated into a vibrant research group of around 40 laboratory based scientists, providing administrative support for the management of research grant budgets. Specific tasks will include the monitoring and distribution of laboratory supplies, developing and maintaining rotas for laboratory work and academic meetings, organisation of transportation of materials, development of budgets for research grant applications, and maintenance and monitoring of staff appraisal, end dates and salary budgets. A scientific background is not a prerequisite for the role but the successful candidate will have well developed skills in record keeping and problem solving as well as interpersonal skills. Although some remote working is possible, the post holder will require to be physically located in the Zayed Centre for the majority of the role. Flexible working hours are possible in discussion with line manager. This is a maternity cover role funded until 31/12/2026 or when the postholder returns, whichever is sooner. The salary offered is £39,148 per annum.
About you
The successful candidate will have at least a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or non-scientific discipline and will have previous experience and initiative of development or implementation of databases and computational systems for storage and manipulation of data. The postholder will be a natural team player with excellent verbal and digital communication.
