The opportunity
Wimbledon College of Arts, part of University of the Arts London (UAL), is seeking a Course Leader for BA Theatre and Performance Design to provide academic leadership for a well-established undergraduate course within the Theatre, Screen & Performance Arts Programme. The role offers the chance to shape curriculum direction, uphold academic standards and lead a course that values rigour, experimentation and contemporary practice. Working closely with the Programme Director, you’ll set the agenda for course development while ensuring a high-quality, supportive student experience.
The role combines strategic oversight with active academic leadership. You’ll lead and support a team of academic staff and visiting practitioners, contribute to programme-wide initiatives, and play a key role in recruitment, validation, review and external engagement. Alongside leadership responsibilities and teaching, there is scope to remain connected to research or professional practice, contributing to the wider academic and cultural life of the College and University.
About you
The role would suit an experienced theatre or performance design academic or practitioner with a strong understanding of higher education teaching and course leadership. A credible profile within the discipline, combined with the ability to guide curriculum development, academic standards and inclusive teaching practice is essential.
A collaborative and organised approach is important, alongside confidence in balancing creative vision with operational delivery. Experience of leading teams, managing resources and responding thoughtfully to student feedback and performance data is expected. An ongoing engagement with contemporary debates in theatre and performance, and a reflective approach to teaching and leadership, will support success in the role.
