This new 0.5 FTE part-time post is available from 31 March 2026 on a fixed term basis ending on the 31 March 2027 (although there is the possibility of a further two years – subject to funding confirmation).
This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

Background
SPOCC (SPOtting Cancer among Comorbidities) is an NIHR-funded five-year research programme is led by the APEx Team at the University of Exeter in collaboration with University College London. The focus of this work is to find out how pre-existing medical conditions put patients at higher risk of having a delayed cancer diagnosis and to use this information to help improve the diagnosis of cancer and survival rates in these patients. The programme of research started in March 2021 and is being conducted by a large multi-disciplinary team. A vacancy has become available for a manager for this programme to work closely with the Principal Investigator (Prof. Gary Abel) in facilitating the delivery of this important research, supporting the conclusion of the project.
Summary of the role
The postholder will work with the SPOCC Principal Investigator and the SPOCC team to ensure the smooth running and management of all SPOCC related activity. This will include financial management and reporting, acting in conjunction with the College of Medicine and Health research finance team, and relevant SPOCC human resources management, acting with CMH relevant CMH HR staff to ensure timely delivery of relevant HR processes such as drafting of job descriptions, advertising and appointment of suitable staff. The postholder will have a key role in promoting and supporting relevant SPOCC communications and supporting a range of internal and external events, coordinate reporting to NIHR, supporting researcher with interactions and reporting to Clinical Research Networks, as well as other tasks required in the provision of a professional support service.
