The INEOS Oxford Institute for Antimicrobial Research (IOI) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a multidisciplinary programme focused on tackling antimicrobial resistance. The position is based at the INEOS Oxford Institute for AMR Research and sits within the Schofield Group, under the supervision of Dr Alistair Farley and Professor Chris Schofield.

This post is fixed term for 2 years

This role will contribute directly to drug discovery efforts through the design and synthesis of small-molecule inhibitors. The postholder will use structural, biochemical and microbiological data to inform molecule design, generate and test hypotheses, and develop new synthetic methodologies. Alongside independent research, the position involves collaboration with national and international partners, preparation of high-quality publications, participation in seminars and journal clubs, and representation of the research group at external meetings. There will also be opportunities to contribute to teaching, mentoring and the broader academic life of the Institute.

Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or Chemistry, with strong expertise in organic synthesis, particularly natural product synthesis and/or modern synthetic methods. A proven ability to conduct high-quality independent research, communicate effectively in English, maintain excellent laboratory practice, and work supportively within a research team is essential. Experience in a pharmaceutical or CRO environment, and a background in medicinal chemistry or molecular modelling, would be advantageous.

IOI offers a dynamic, collaborative research environment with a strong international profile, a track record of scientific excellence, and a deep commitment to training and career development. This is an opportunity to contribute to impactful research with the potential to influence global approaches to antimicrobial resistance.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 27 February 2026. Please upload a CV and Supporting statement as part of your online application.]
