Oxford Brookes University is looking for a skilled Painter to join our in-house Estates Buildings Team. This is a secure, permanent role working across a diverse university estate including academic buildings, offices, student accommodation, workshops and public spaces.
Our Estates team looks after these buildings to keep them safe, functional and fit for purpose. We value skilled tradespeople and understand that the quality of our buildings depends on the quality of the people who maintain them.
You’ll carry out reactive repairs, planned maintenance and small improvement works, working as part of a professional, supportive team.
A basic DBS check is required.
Hours: 37 hours per week (Mon–Fri, occasional out-of-hours / weekend work required to support University events)
Principal Location: Headington Campus, Oxford (work across all University sites and halls)
What You’ll Be Doing
Painting & Building Maintenance
- Carry out reactive, planned and preventative painting and decorating maintenance
- Prepare and decorate internal and external surfaces including walls, ceilings, woodwork and metalwork
- Diagnose defects, surface failures and finishes issues and complete repairs to a high standard.
Adaptations & Improvement Works
- Undertake authorised refurbishment, development and adaptation works
- Support accessibility, redecoration and improvement projects across the University estate.
Inspections & Reporting
- Carry out condition surveys of buildings and painted finishes
- Identify defects and provide clear written reports to the Buildings Team Supervisor.
Teamwork & Support
- Work closely with other technicians, handypersons, engineers and external contractors
- Provide guidance, coaching and on-the-job support to handypersons and other technicians when co-working
- Communicate professionally with staff and students.
Health & Safety
- Work safely at all times and comply with health & safety legislation and procedures
- Complete task-specific risk assessments and method statements as required
- Accurately complete job records, CAFM updates and other required paperwork.
What We’re Looking For
Skills & Experience
- Completed a recognised painting and decorating apprenticeship (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent), or equivalent proven experience
- Significant post-apprenticeship experience in painting and decorating maintenance
- Proven experience working across a range of building maintenance environments
- Experience working in occupied buildings is desirable.

- Able to prioritise workloads and manage materials effectively
- Good time management and communication skills.

- Full UK driving licence
