At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Scientist to focus on Antibody discovery. In this high-impact role, you will drive the innovation and delivery of candidate antibodies through high-throughput library design, panning, and output triage. Your work will directly contribute to the discovery of clinically relevant candidates and tools for drug discovery.

About Cancer Research Horizons: Cancer Research Horizons (CRH) unites Cancer Research UK’s established drug discovery teams. Our mission is to accelerate new cancer treatments by combining unique cancer biology expertise, world-class academic networks, cutting-edge technology, and clinical insights. Based at sites in Cambridge, Glasgow, and Newcastle, our diverse team works to bring forward the day all cancers are cured.

What you will be doing:

  • Design, implement, and characterize phage display selection campaigns against recombinant and cell-expressed oncology-related target antigens.
  • Design and construct novel antibody libraries or affinity maturation libraries to isolate improved affinity and/or functional clones.
  • Use bioinformatic and in silico sequence analysis software to guide antibody delivery and prioritization.
  • Characterize candidate antibody panels for desired biochemical and functional properties using a broad range of laboratory techniques (e.g., binding specificity, developability assays).
  • Record, analyze, and present data at internal and external scientific forums, driving scientific and technical innovation through collaborations.
  • Communicate effectively, influencing stakeholders, collaborating across sites, and promoting scientific excellence through publications and presentations.
  • Play a pivotal role in training and developing colleagues.

What we are looking for:

  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant field, ideally with a phage display context.
  • An understanding of biotherapeutic candidate discovery, ideally antibodies, and the overall development process for biotherapeutic drugs.
  • Experience of display technologies, including building, panning, and sequencing of outputs (Next Generation Sequencing would be advantageous).
  • Familiarity with laboratory automation systems to streamline workflows.
  • Strength in collaborative working and the ability to clearly articulate scientific goals and data interpretations across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Passion for scientific innovation, with a demonstrated commitment to advancing immuno-oncology capabilities and driving novel approaches in antibody discovery.

Our Values: Bold, Credible, Human, Together. We seek individuals who embody these values to drive progress against our mission.

What will I gain? We offer a supportive working environment, generous benefits, career development opportunities, and high-quality tools to support your work-life balance and career progression.
