About us
The UCL Centre for Advanced Research Computing (ARC) is UCL’s new institute for infrastructure and innovation in digital research - the supercomputers, datasets, software and people that make computational science and digital scholarship possible.
We are an innovative hybrid: a professional services department that delivers reliable and secure infrastructure and services to UCL research groups, and a laboratory for research and innovation in the application of advanced computational and data intensive research methods, working in partnership with academics from all fields.
About the role
As a Research Data Steward, you’ll bring experience in conducting or supporting data intensive- research. You will have the technical skills to manage, curate, and preserve research data throughout its lifecycle, ensuring it complies with the FAIR data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).
We’re looking for someone who enjoys communicating about research data and who can help colleagues understand specialised or technical concepts, regardless of their background or level of technical expertise.
We are especially interested in hearing from people with experience in:
These are our current priority areas, but we welcome applicants with expertise in other disciplines. If you’re unsure whether your experience fits, we encourage you to apply.
On the technical side, we’re interested to hear from candidates with some experience with Python (or another programming language), cloud technologies, and/or database technologies such as SQL, SPARQL, or similar. We know that applicants come with different strengths, so you don’t need to meet every requirement to be a strong candidate—enthusiasm for learning and developing these skills is highly valued for this role.
*This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation*
About you
We are a home for the research technology professionals - research software engineers, HPC systems engineers, dev-ops specialists, data engineers, data scientists and data stewards - who support and collaborate in the delivery of UCL research.
Research Data Stewards (also known as research data managers, data consultants, data wranglers, or bioinformaticians) provide technically focused support and consultancy to researchers at UCL, helping them to improve their data management, aligning with university and funder policies and modern best practices.
Salary range for the Research Data Steward: £43,981 - £52,586 (including London Allowance) depending on experience.
