We are recruiting for a part-time Library Assistant to join our evening and weekend team!

About the role

The post is part of the Evening and Weekend team at the Bodleian Art, Archaeology and Ancient World Library, one of the University of Oxford’s principal research libraries, with collections focused on archaeology, art history, classics, Egyptology, ancient Near Eastern studies and architecture. Alongside the Taylor Institution Library and the Nizami Ganjavi Library, the Art Library forms part of Section 3 of the Bodleian Libraries’ Humanities Libraries, which work closely together to deliver reader services across the group.

The role provides a friendly, professional and efficient frontline service during evenings and weekends, welcoming readers and visitors, administering admissions procedures, and responding to enquiries at Issue and Enquiry Desks. The post-holder supports readers in using the library catalogue and other reader-facing systems, assists with issuing, returning and renewing material, and helps to maintain a safe and secure study environment. In addition to reader services, the role contributes to collections work including re-shelving, scanning material for the Scan and Deliver service, and assisting with stock management and other collections projects. From time to time, the post-holder may be required to provide cover at other Section 3 libraries or, in exceptional circumstances, at other Bodleian Humanities Libraries.

The role involves lifting, carrying and shelving books, climbing ladders, and pushing trolleys.

This is a permanent part-time post, working 12.25 hours per week. The anticipated working pattern is Tuesdays 17:00-21:15 and Sundays 10:45-19:15.
