As a leading international technological university, our mission, inspired by our founding principle as ‘a place of useful learning,’ is to make a positive difference in the lives of our students, society, and the world.

Since 1995, we have been delivering MBA teaching at our international centre in Bahrain, and we are now proud to have expanded our activities through the establishment of an Innovation, Research, and Education Hub in partnership with S Eleven Educational.

Our department

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is one of the largest and most successful civil and environmental engineering departments in the UK. The department was ranked 1st in Scotland and 3rd in the UK in the Guardian Subject Rankings 2025. We educate over 1,000 students, including over 600 undergraduates in Glasgow, nearly 300 at our partner university at Yunnan, China, 100 taught postgraduates and almost 100 registered research students. We have a strong commitment to widening access and inclusion while maintaining academic quality and providing an outstanding student experience.

Civil and Environmental Engineering academics lead an active and growing portfolio of around £20M worth of research projects, the main funders of this research are UK Research and Innovation (£13.9M), National Institute for Health and Care Research (£3M) and Industry (£1.8M). We are a dynamic research-intensive department. Income from industry funded research has increased year on year and income from licensing, gains on sales of spinout/spin off investment, and consultancy has doubled over the last four years. We have 30 academic staff, 22 post-doctoral research staff and 66 PGR students.

The opportunity

  • surveying
  • hydraulic and hydrology
  • sustainable development

You will work as part of an integrated Bahrain–Glasgow team, co-developing teaching materials, assessment approaches, and academic support. While you will have a clearly defined core teaching portfolio, there will be opportunities to contribute to related subject areas where this aligns with your expertise and interests, helping to lead the development of international degree programmes. We are looking for someone who is motivated by the opportunity to help build a new campus, who enjoys working collaboratively, and who values high-quality, inclusive engineering education.
