We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Assistant with expertise and interest in mechanotransduction and fluidics to join the Tzima/Reader research group at the Centre of Human Genetics, within the University of Oxford. The Tzima/Reader research group investigates the role of mechanotransduction in cardiovascular disease within a laboratory that is at the cutting edge of developments in in vitro and in vivo models of mechanotransduction. We use a multi-disciplinary approach that includes expertise and collaborations in bioengineering, biochemistry, structural biology, and physiology, and use a combination of in vitro and in vivo approaches. Recent publications from the group include Nature, Science Advances, J Cell Biology.

As Postdoctoral Research Assistant, you will be involved in research investigating the characterisation of the role of endothelial mechanotransduction in physiology and pathology. You will collaborate closely with other laboratory members involved in cell biological approaches, thereby facilitating an integrative research environment. The overarching goal of the research project is to gain an understanding of both protein synthesis and mechanobiology at the molecular, cellular and organismal level. We use a multi-disciplinary approach that includes expertise and collaborations in bioengineering, biochemistry, structural biology, and physiology, and use a combination of in vitro and in vivo approaches. The group has access to a range of state-of-the-art facilities and technologies within the Centre of Human Genetics, and more broadly as part of the University of Oxford.

You will hold a PhD/DPhil in a relevant field (such as Biochemistry, Biophysics or Bioengineering), alongside demonstrable experience in the use of biophysical and biochemical techniques to explore proteins and protein-protein interactions. Previous experience in molecular cloning, confocal imaging and biochemical assays is also required, in addition to evidence of at least one first-author research article published in a quality peer-reviewed journal. Experience in protein structure determination or modelling will be an advantage.

This is a full-time appointment on a fixed-term contract to September 2027 in the first instance, and you will be based at the Centre for Human Genetics, Old Road Campus, Roosevelt Drive, Oxford, OX3 7BN.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online; you will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement which explains how you meet the selection criteria for the post.

Only applications received before 12:00 midday on 13th April 2026 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place in mid-late April (date to be confirmed).
