We are seeking to appoint a Terry Wall Fellow (Senior Postdoctoral Research Associate).
You will be working with Dr Oleg Karpenkov, Prof. Anna Pratoussevitch and Prof. Victor Goryunov within the project “Continued Fractions in Lattice Geometry and Singularity Theory” funded by XTX Markets. You will be a part of the Pure Mathematics section at the Department of Mathematical Sciences of the University of Liverpool.
This project aims to solve various problems in theory and applications of multidimensional continued fractions. More precisely, you will work on the applications of continued fractions to one of the following areas: lattice geometry, Diophantine approximation, algorithms in algebraic number theory, real and complex hyperbolic geometry and applications to singularity theory.
You should have a PhD in pure mathematics or in another relevant quantitative subject. You should ideally have research experience in one of the following areas: continued fractions, generalised Euclidean algorithms, lattice geometry and Diophantine approximation, real and complex hyperbolic geometry, discrete geometry. You should demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to write clearly and succinctly for publication.
We are committed to supporting the career development of Postdoctoral Research Associates. You will have the opportunity to have research visits and to attend conferences to present the results from your work. You will be appointed in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, which is part of the School of Physical Sciences. The expected start date is between 1 September and 31 December 2026 for 30 months.
Please contact Dr Oleg Karpenkov (karpenk@liverpool.ac.uk ) and Professor Anna Pratoussevitch (annap@liverpool.ac.uk ) for all enquiries.
