Background
Information Compliance Services plays a vital role in supporting City St George’s to meet its legal and regulatory obligations around data protection, freedom of information, and records management. The team provides expert guidance, frameworks, and training that enable staff to handle information responsibly and securely. As part of the Legal, Governance, Risk and Compliance directorate, the service underpins the University’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance, ensuring robust systems and processes are in place across the institution.
Responsibilities
The Head of Information Compliance & DPO leads the Information Compliance Services team, shaping a high‑quality, customer‑focused service. Key duties include providing expert data protection and FOI advice, acting as the University’s Data Protection Officer, managing ICO liaison, overseeing governance frameworks, and ensuring timely incident and request handling. The role drives policy development, reporting, training, and continuous improvement, while building strong relationships with senior leaders to support instituti onal priorities.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate brings significant experience in information governance leadership, expert knowledge of UK‑GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and FOI, and a proven track record as a Data Protection Officer. They will demonstrate strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder‑engagement skills, with the ability to manage complex caseloads and guide strategic decision‑making. Qualifications in data protection or information governance are essential, along with a collaborative, customer‑focused approach and commitment to the values of transparency, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
