We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Optimisation and Control to join Dr Jack Umenberger’s research group at the Department of Engineering Science (central Oxford). The post is funded by UKRI and is fixed-term for 35 months.
The project concerns real-time balancing of energy in the electricity grid, a task essential for grid stability. The goals of the project are twofold. The first goal is to accelerate the solution of the large mixed-integer optimisation problems required to balance energy. The second goal is to develop methods that handle the increasing uncertainty associated with high renewable penetration in a more systematic and effective way. Specific responsibilities may include:
