The Role
We seek to appoint a Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence with a broad profile in applications of AI such as explainable and ethical AI, human-computer interaction (HCI) or user experience (UX) and AI. Applicants should have a developing track record of publications and academic achievement to complement the research in the School of Computer Science and Mathematics, and the ability to contribute to the disciplines of AI and Computer Science in teaching, knowledge exchange and research.
The role provides a full range of opportunities and tools to facilitate a substantive career development and a platform for contributing to this cross-disciplinary field through research activities, publications and an impact on both industry and the society at large.
The Person
An effective communicator, you will hold a PhD in Computer Science or related area, and ideally an appropriate HE teaching qualification or accreditation, such as Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), in addition to a developing profile of research outputs and collaboration.
This is an opportunity for an ambitious academic to establish themselves within the School’s already strong research and teaching portfolio in these fields, working actively within the Knowledge Exchange and Research Institute (KERI), and contributing to our new BSc AI course.
You will make a strong contribution to the profile of the School through demonstrable excellence and developing leadership in research and teaching. You will work with a team of talented lecturers to deliver vibrant, relevant education to your students, using modern pedagogic approaches to develop their profiles as part of the University’s progressive, award-winning Future Skills programme, leading in the HE sector and which permeates all our courses and delivery.
This is a new, full-time role intended to expand the breadth of School’s capabilities in Artificial Intelligence research and practice. It is based within the Department of Computer Science but entails working in an interdisciplinary way with colleagues around the University.
The Faculty
There are few faculties across the UK university landscape as varied in their scope as the Faculty of Engineering, Computing & the Environment (ECE). We teach and research across a wide range of subjects, allowing for real cross-discipline innovation and creativity.
Further information
This is a full time, permanent position with a starting salary of £45,025 per annum.
In person interviews are expected to be held on 29 April 2026.
For informal enquiries, please contact Dr James Denholm-Price, Head of Department, Computer Science.
