The Theory Supervisions Lead is a relatively new post, which started in Autumn 2025. We are seeking a doctor to cover maternity leave for the current postholder. The current postholder has set up and is managing a system of theory supervisions for year four students on the standard and MBPhD clinical courses. These complement the successful undergraduate clinical supervisions, which are delivered to students in all three clinical years and which focus on bedside clinical teaching experience. Supervisions are delivered by local GP residents, supported by the postholder.
There is currently a pilot of this programme, consisting of six supervisions in year four, taking place in early 2026. This is being evaluated, and the results of this evaluation will guide how the programme develops. We currently foresee that this will expand to 20 supervisions for all year 4 students in 2026/2027.
The maternity leave cover will play a crucial role at this important stage of the project, including (but not limited to): completing the evaluation of the pilot (currently started by the current postholder); utilising the results of the evaluation to improve the supervisions for year two; potentially expanding the programme to 20 sessions in the second year, including co-developing new material; recruiting and quality assuring a new pool of supervisors for year two.
The postholder will be supported by the Clinical Sub-Dean for Staff Development and the Professor of Medical Education Practice (who also leads the undergraduate clinical supervisor programme) and have links with the Head of Undergraduate GP Teaching and the GP Education Group. They will have the support of an administrator, with specific job plan time allocated for this work.
The role is based in the Education Division Offices of the Clinical School and attracts 10% whole time equivalent of funding, to be paid as a fractional contract with the university. The candidate should be working as a fully-trained GP within the Eastern region. All candidates for the post should hold full GMC registration and a license to practice. This post will be for 12 months or return from maternity leave, whichever is earlier.

The postholder will report to Clinical Sub-Dean for Staff Development, currently Dr Jeremy Webb (who is also a GP in Suffolk). For further information, interested candidates should contact Dr Webb on jw349@medschl.cam.ac.uk.
Temporary cover: This post is fixed-term for 12 months or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.
This appointment requires an Honorary Clinical Contract.
