About the job:

The School of Biological Sciences together with The Institute for Global Food Security (IGFS) at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional academic to the post of Lecturer in Veterinary Bioscience.

The postholder will strengthen the academic base of the School of Biological Sciences and Institute for Global Food Security (IGFS) at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) and enhance our international reputation for academic excellence. They will undertake research in line with the School and Institute strategy, with the intention to establish and lead an independent, competitively-funded research programme in the field of Veterinary Science and provide complementary expertise to allow the expansion of existing areas of strength across the School, Institute, wider University and within the Belfast Regional City Deal. The successful candidate will teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level, to contribute to the School’s administration/outreach activity.

The School of Biological Sciences (SBS) together with The Institute for Global Food Security (IGFS) provide and facilitate a vibrant and integrated research environment, conducting globally competitive and sustainable research that addresses major challenges and develops solutions to many of the global challenges that we face today. In the most recent Research Exercise Framework (REF2021) we are ranked No 1 in the UK for Agriculture, Food & Veterinary Sciences with 94% of research in these areas "world-leading" or "internationally excellent".

The appointment will contribute directly to the delivery of a range of new undergraduate courses, including BSc (Hons) and MSci Veterinary Biosciences with student intake planned for September 2026. The programmes have been developed in response to clear demand from industry, government and key stakeholders and will address the need for high calibre graduates across the Veterinary and Animal Health Sector.

About the person:

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Honours degree or equivalent in Veterinary Science or an area relevant to the job purpose.
  • PhD or equivalent in an area relevant to the job purpose
  • Significant, relevant research experience in the field of Veterinary Science, which complements the research priorities of the School and the Institute for Global Food Security.
  • A publication record (or be about to publish) in peer reviewed journals /conference papers. ·
  • Experience of developing research methodologies, models, approaches and techniques (Established Lecturer only)
  • Experience of presentations at national and international meetings and conferences (Established Lecturer only)
  • Relevant teaching experience commensurate with stage of career
