Objective of this post
The Lecturer in Health Professions Education will contribute to the development, delivery, and
enhancement of RCSI’s health professions education programmes, with a primary focus on Graduate
Diploma and Masters in Health Professions Education. The successful candidate will be scholarly
educator and an emerging institutional leader in teaching and learning. We are seeking a highly motivated individual from a Health Professions Education background, with experience in the development and delivery of academic postgraduate health professions education programmes. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, experienced, and innovative educator and leader, who works well within a diverse, multicultural academic setting.
Specific responsibilities
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and enhancement of the Graduate Diploma and MSc in HPE and support new and existing health professions education programmes
- Contribute to the HPEC Strategy by driving faculty development initiatives
- Conduct high quality educational research that informs directions at RCSI and nationally and internationally
- Supervise educational research PhD candidates
- Promote evidence-based, innovative teaching and learning practices across RCSI
- Lead and publish educational research in high impact journals to advance knowledge in health professions education
- Build and sustain HPE education and research partnerships across RCSI, nationally and internationally
- Securing funding to sustain a research group of postgraduate students and other research staff, with resultant publications in journals of high quality/impact
- Fostering industry-academia interactions and commercialization of research findings
- Contributing to the development and introduction of new teaching programmes, teaching modalities and modes of assessment
- Liaising with colleagues across RCSI international campuses in the facilitation of research and teaching activities
- Undergoing programmes of training and development as may be required
- Undertaking overseas assignments as may be required from time to time
- Supervising undergraduate students and postgraduate students at Masters and PhD level
- Participating in the development of RCSI’s teaching and learning strategy including the effective use of technology-enhanced learning
- Contributing to quality assurance/quality improvement and accreditation of existing modules
- Performing such other related duties as may be required
- Representing the best interests of the Department and RCSI at all times
Candidate Specification: Essential
- PhD in an area relevant to health professions education
- Relevant postgraduate qualification in education
- Significant experience with online learning and educational technology
- Experience in designing and delivering a programme of health professions education
- Proven track record and commitment to research
- Proven track record of PRG research supervision
- Proven track record of publications in high impact journals
- Experience delivering faculty development
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to build and maintain internal and external networks
Candidate Specification: Desirable
- Previous health professions education experience
- Previous experience in leading a postgraduate programme in health professions education
