The University of Liverpool, in partnership with University Hospitals of Liverpool Group, have developed an exciting opportunity for integrated clinical academic training in General Surgery. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated candidate who will excel in both clinical and academic training. The prospective NIHR Clinical Lecturer will join a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, clinical academics and scientists in clinical cancer medicine, with their academic aligned to the NIHR research priority of “Clinical Therapeutics and Pharmacology”, and the University’s priority of “Response Mode”.
Academic Training:
A bespoke academic training programme will be developed according to the interests of the appointed candidate and hosted within the Department of Molecular and Clinical Cancer Medicine, with cross-departmental support from Pharmacology & Therapeutics. This component will be supervised by Mr Muhammad Ahsan Javed with collaboration from Professor Peter McCormick. Focus will be on structured training in translational methodology, bioinformatics and AI-enabled response to therapy analysis, in line with the University’s research strategy. There will be additional training and support in the completion of funding applications to facilitate continued post-doctoral research in their chosen field.
Clinical Training:
This will take place under at University Hospitals of Liverpool Group NHS Trust and will be designed following discussions between the trainee, supervisors and the training programme director (Mr Kulbir Mann). The clinical training programme will provide the candidate the opportunities to achieve the necessary specialist competencies to progress towards CCT and develop their clinical interest, whilst preserving protected academic time.
The post is available for 4 years or until CCT. Interviews are provisionally planned for week commencing 13th April 2026.
