A position exists, for an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Engineering, to work on Sustainability of Production and the Built Environment. 

The new Assistant Research Professor role will support a portfolio of research activities on knowledge transfer of best practices from sustainable manufacturing into other production environments including manufacturing, construction, and infrastructure, both directly with industrial partners but also with government and industrial bodies. 

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK, though remote or hybrid working patterns will be considered. 

The role includes analysis of data, helping to write academic and industry publications, leading the writing and submission of grant applications, and developing networks to disseminate learnings from research into real-world applications. Experience with using of AI or ML techniques to help find patterns in large industrial data sets to identify opportunities for efficiency will form a key part of this role.

Specifically, this role should aim to support the findings and insights from research to be framed and communicated such that they are able to be received and used by real-world practitioners from industrial, policy, and other non-academic stakeholder groups. 

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are; applicants must have a PhD in Engineering or a related discipline. The ideal candidate would have experience working in industrial, academic, and startup environments, and experience spanning both the manufacturing and construction & infrastructure sectors. A knowledge of applications of Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning for industrial datasets to drive operational efficiency is critical to the role. 

Appointment at Assistant Research Professor level is dependent on having a PhD, significant experience as a postdoctoral research associate or equivalent, with proven impact from authored publications.

Salary Ranges:

Assistant Research Professor: £47,389 - £59,966

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
