About us
The Department of Statistical Science at UCL is the longest established university statistics department in the world. It is one of nine departments in the UCL Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MAPS), and has close links with the medical school through the UCLH/UCL NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), UCL Respiratory, UCL Research Imaging Organisation, and UCL Primary Care and Mental Health (PRIMENT) Clinical Trials Unit. The department offers courses at all levels (undergraduate, MSc and PhD) including an MSc in Medical Statistics and Data Science.
The Biostatistics Group (BSG) was established to strengthen the methodological quality of health research across UCL and its partner NHS Trusts. Within this context, the group undertakes an ambitious programme of research including collaborative work with health researchers and the development of novel statistical methods to address biomedical challenges.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for a medical statistician with a strong background in statistics as applied to health research who would like to grow that skill set further. The role within the BSG will involve working closely with health researchers at the UCLH/UCL BRC and at UCL Respiratory, providing expert statistical advice, collaborating on research projects, and undertaking hands-on analyses of cutting-edge medical studies. In addition, there will be opportunity to develop a methodological research portfolio and expertise. In collaboration with Professor Hurst and colleagues at UCL Respiratory, the statistician will contribute to an exciting programme investigating diagnosis and management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in Brazil. Research visits to Brazil will be part of the role.
This post is available immediately and initially funded full time for 2 years.
Salary - grade 7 spine point 31 (£45,103 per annum including London allowance) to 33 (£47,451).
