Our group discovered an unprecedented, evolutionary conserved core enzyme (FAMIN) of energy metabolism that prevents inflammation and autoimmunity. Genetic loss of function causes monogenic Still's disease (a childhood fever syndrome with arthritis) and Crohn's disease (an inflammatory bowel disease), and a common hypomorphic variant predisposes for Crohn's disease and leprosy (a chronic infection).
