About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science for an individual to join our Dissection & Surgery Team as a Support Technician. This role is essential in supporting the delivery of practical teaching sessions for veterinary students, ensuring that all classes are fully resourced, safe, and well-organised.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and maintaining teaching environments, including setting up and clearing away materials and equipment for dissection, cadaver surgery, and other practical classes. Duties also include the preparation of teaching specimens, operation and maintenance of apparatus and machinery, stock management, and ensuring compliance with Health and Safety regulations. This includes the safe disposal of clinical and biohazard waste, as well as maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of laboratories, equipment, and student facilities. The role involves operating laundry facilities to provide clean protective clothing for cadaver-based sessions, along with routine record keeping and data input. The technician will also support logistics by driving school vehicles to collect materials from abattoirs and clinical practices, and by monitoring vehicle condition and reporting any issues.
About you
We are seeking a candidate with strong communication skills, a proactive and flexible approach to work, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Applicants must hold a full UK manual driving licence and have a minimum of GCSEs (grade C or above) in Maths and English or equivalent, or relevant experience in a similar technical role.
