Arts University Plymouth is seeking to appoint a Craft Lecturer to join our BA (Hons) Crafts & Material Practices course and the developing CertHE Ceramics and Glass course. This is an exciting opportunity to join the signature course for the University and to contribute to an ambitious and collaborative team, committed to delivering high quality learning and teaching and outstanding student experiences.

As a Lecturer on the course you will support the development and delivery of an innovative curriculum that integrates practical skills, theory, and industry engagement. Working closely with the Course Leader and the wider team, you will lead assigned units, support students’ academic and creative development and contribute to the ongoing success of the course. You will also play a role in the University’s research culture and student recruitment activities.

About You:

  • A BA (Hons) in Crafts or related crafts discipline and ideally an MA in a Crafts-related discipline
  • Proven teaching experience in Higher Education, this would ideally include assessment, curriculum planning and pastoral support.
  • With core subject knowledge in ceramics and glass practices, you will be able to deliver excellent teaching across the craft disciplines, professional practice, industry engagement and relevant theoretical and contextual frameworks.
  • Demonstrable research, scholarship, and/or professional practice.
  • An understanding of pedagogic models that integrate theory and practice.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and support diverse learners.

About The Role:

  • Teach, assess, and provide academic support to undergraduate students, and contribute to postgraduate delivery where required.
  • Act as Unit Leader for designated units, managing all aspects of planning, resourcing, delivery, formative review, and assessment.
  • Support academic planning, curriculum development, and the Annual Monitoring Review process alongside the Course Leader.
  • Engage in research, scholarship, and/or professional practice that supports the University’s research culture.
  • Develop and maintain external networks that enhance industry engagement and learning opportunities.
