A full-time Research Assistant position is available in the group of Dr. Jeanne Salje at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR). The lab studies the host-pathogen cell biology of Rickettsial diseases with a particular focus on *Orientia tsutsugamushi*, the causative agent of scrub typhus.
The Research Assistant will carry out a range of research-related activities as directed by the PI. These may include maintaining bacterial stocks and cell lines, cloning, purifying proteins, imaging samples, as well as ordering reagents and managing inventory. Techniques will include microscopy, cell biology, biochemistry and microbiology. Training will be provided as required.
The successful candidate should hold a BSc in a relevant field, be familiar with cell culture techniques, real-time PCR analysis and immunofluorescent microscopy. Candidates should have at least 12 months research experience in a laboratory setting and experience working in a CL3 laboratory is strongly preferred.
This is a full-time position for 3 years, with the possibility of carrying out a PhD (subject to all admission criteria for postgraduate students being fulfilled) from Autumn 2026 in a parallel to this role.
