Are you an experienced Data and Systems Manager with a strong background in clinical research delivery and technical systems administration?

We have a unique and impactful opportunity to join our Clinical Infection Research Group (CIRG) based in the School of Medicine and Population Health at the University of Sheffield.

The Opportunity and the Impact

We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled individual to act as our primary Data Steward and take independent responsibility for developing and delivering CIRG's data and systems strategy. This is a crucial role where your expertise will directly influence the success of clinical research studies, including global health research projects.

In this varied role, you will be expected to lead the Group's overall data and systems strategy, ensuring all activities strictly comply with data protection regulations and institutional policies. You will manage the technical infrastructure for research, providing hands-on Linux system administration, managing containerised environments, and maintaining critical research platforms such as REDCap and eLabFTW. You will design and manage clinical databases and electronic Case Report Forms (eCRFs) using REDCap, as well as providing expert technical guidance for data management from collection and storage through to analysis and publication. You will actively collaborate with academic and technical colleagues to resolve issues, develop SOPs, and promote best practice in data stewardship across the group, while also designing, developing, and maintaining vital internal web applications using PHP and MySQL.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a candidate with a good honours degree (or equivalent experience) who possesses proven experience working within a clinical research setting. Your application must demonstrate hands-on expertise in Linux administration, REDCap database design, and a deep understanding of data protection and compliance in the research context. Knowledge of the research lifecycle and experience contributing to funding applications are essential. While not essential, experience in higher education communications or knowledge of institutional/NHS ethical review procedures would be an advantage.
