The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.
We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.
Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.
The role
We are looking to recruit a skilled Laboratory Technician, who will operate under the direction of the Research Laboratory Manager in the discipline of Nutrition, Exercise Science, Chronobiology and Sleep to work in the sections of Nutrition, Food, Exercise Science and Cardiovascular Science.
This exciting opportunity has become available to work alongside our academics, involving the analysis of clinical samples from nutritional and metabolic studies and supporting wet lab project students within the different sections. As such, we are looking for a highly motivated Technician with a key scientific interest in nutrition, food science and cardiovascular science to join the team.
This position would suit someone with excellent attention to detail, wet lab/project experience, and an interest in food, nutrition and cardiovascular research and development. Previous experience with microbiological assays, biochemical assays, or analytical techniques in food science is essential for the successful applicant, although further training will be provided.
In addition to further developing existing knowledge/skills in nutritional and metabolic assays, this position will provide opportunities to work alongside an experienced team of Laboratory Technicians from a range of backgrounds, attend research seminars, and build professional contacts across the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences.
What we can offer
In addition to a competitive salary you will receive 25 days annual leave, with additional days for Bank Holidays and University closure days. We offer a generous pension, flexible working options, access to world-class leisure facilities, a range of travel schemes and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery.
