About us

UCL, based in Bloomsbury, is a welcoming, inclusive university situated at the heart of one of the world’s greatest cities. UCL is a top-ranked university in the UK for research in psychology; psychiatry & neuroscience. The university hosts one of the largest concentrations of biomedical research in the world. The post will be based within the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences (PALS) in the Faculty of Brain Sciences. The Division houses a number of research departments, one of which is the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience (ICN). The successful applicant will be based at the ICN. The post-holder will be part of the Clinical and Affective Neuroscience Group. We aim to understand how aberrant physiological mechanisms in brain and body can underlie altered emotion processing in a variety of clinical conditions including anxiety, PTSD, depression and psychosis. This position is also a collaboration between UCL, and Cambridge University

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team, led by Prof. Sarah Garfinkel (UCL) and Prof. Camilla Nord (University of Cambridge). We are recruiting a postdoctoral research fellow to contribute to the development and running of a mindfulness clinical trial. This clinical trial will assess whether mindfulness may be efficacious for depression and anxiety through changes in interoception. This clinical trial will take place across both the UK (UCL, Cambridge) and Argentina. The postdoctoral research fellow will be primarily based at UCL while also working with the Cambridge and Argentinian sites. At the outset, this post will primarily involve trial and experimental design, ethics, data collection, and data-curation. Duration: The position is offered for 1 year for the first instance with the possibility of extension.

About you

We are looking to recruit an individual with a PhD in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, or a related discipline. An interest in and/or experience with clinical trials would be advantageous, as would an interest in psychophysiology, depression and anxiety research, interoception, and emotion. Expertise in programming (Python) would be desirable. In terms of personal characteristics, we are seeking someone who is committed and enthusiastic, and who works well in teams.
