Hours: Part Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 15th April 2026
Closes: 29th April 2026
Job Ref: 185983

About the role

You will act as the first point of contact at the Museum’s security reception, providing a professional and welcoming service to a wide range of visitors including staff, contractors, couriers, VIPs, and school groups. You will manage the day-to-day operation of the reception desk, ensuring all visitors are appropriately logged, issued with relevant information, and directed as required.

You will support the Museum’s security and safety operations by monitoring access control, maintaining and updating electronic systems such as the Visitor Management and Key Management systems, and ensuring accurate record keeping. You will also play a key role in supporting safety and security processes, including assisting with emergency procedures, participating in system testing such as fire alarms, and acting as a fire warden when required. In addition, you will contribute to maintaining a visible and effective security presence, helping to ensure the safety of the Museum’s collections, staff, and visitors.

This is a permanent part-time post, working 22.5 hours per week. The anticipated working pattern is Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, 07:30–15:00.

Due to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a satisfactory Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and Known Consignor security checks due to working in restricted and sensitive areas.

About You

You will have demonstrable experience of working in a reception, front of house, or customer-facing role, with the ability to provide a professional and welcoming service to a diverse range of visitors and stakeholders. You will have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling you to handle enquiries, manage calls, and provide accurate information while escalating issues appropriately where required.

You will have proven experience of managing multiple administrative tasks, including maintaining accurate records, updating electronic systems, and following structured processes. You will be confident handling mail, parcels, or deliveries, including logging and distribution, and will be able to follow procedures when dealing with unidentified or suspicious items.

You will be able to respond effectively to incidents, including safety or security concerns, and support emergency procedures such as evacuations and system testing. A willingness to undertake relevant training, such as first aid or security qualifications, would be advantageous.
