About us

The UK Dementia Trials Network (UK DTN) is a national initiative dedicated to increasing access to, and participation in, dementia clinical trials across the UK. Working in partnership with leading academic institutions, NHS organisations, and third-sector partners, UK DTN aims to ensure that more people living with dementia have the opportunity to take part in high-quality research.

This role is based within the Rare Dementia Support Centre (RDSC) at UCL, home to a pioneering service that provides specialist support to people living with rare and young-onset dementias, as well as their families and carers. Rare Dementia Support (RDS) is internationally recognised for its innovative, person-centred approach, combining direct support with research, education, and community engagement.

Together, UK DTN and RDS are working to transform the experience of participating in dementia research-ensuring that individuals and families feel informed, supported, and empowered before, during, and after taking part in trials.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing national network at the forefront of dementia research and support. You will play a key role in delivering and developing support for individuals who are considering, preparing for, or participating in dementia clinical trials, as well as their families.

Working as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, you will provide practical and emotional support through one-to-one interactions and group-based activities, including the facilitation of support groups. You will also contribute to the development of new initiatives, such as expanding support provision across trial sites, supporting patient and public involvement and engagement (PPI/E), and helping to shape best practice in participant support.

The role is available immediately and funded by NIHR for one year in the first instance with expectation of extension.

This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 50% of time on site or at agreed regional work locations. Occasional Saturday and evening work will be required to support group-related activities in central London or at other trial sites, which may involve business travel. Restrictions on taking annual leave during periods of high, role-specific workload may apply.

Please do not upload any additional attachments as these will not be considered by the selection panel.

About you

You will hold an honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant health-related discipline and have experience supporting people living with dementia and their families. You will bring specialist knowledge of atypical, inherited, and young-onset dementias, alongside an understanding of clinical trials and the UK health and social care system.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey sensitive information to individuals who may be cognitively impaired or psychologically vulnerable, and to build effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
