The Assistant Performance Manager plays a key role in supporting the planning, delivery, and continuous development of high-quality performance services within a dynamic sporting or fitness environment. Working closely with the Performance Manager, coaches, and wider staff across Hull Sport and the University, the post holder will contribute to enhancing athlete development, physical performance, and overall programme effectiveness across individual and team settings.
This role requires substantial experience within a leisure, fitness, or team sport environment, with a strong understanding of performance pathways and athlete needs. The Assistant Performance Manager along with the Strength & Conditioning staff, will assist in the coordination and implementation of structured strength and conditioning programmes, ensuring that all sessions are evidence-based, progressive, and aligned with performance objectives. Experience in delivering strength and conditioning to both teams and individual athletes is essential, alongside the ability to adapt sessions to suit varying abilities, ages, and performance levels.
A key responsibility of the role is to support the monitoring and evaluation of athlete performance. This includes collecting and analysing data related to physical outputs, training loads, and progression metrics. The successful candidate will be confident in interpreting data and using insights to inform programme adjustments, contributing to improved performance outcomes. They will also assist in producing clear and concise reports for internal stakeholders, highlighting progress, trends, and areas for development.
The Assistant Performance Manager will contribute to the effective management of resources, including assisting with budget oversight. This involves tracking expenditure, ensuring value for money, and supporting the allocation of resources to maximise programme impact. Strong organisational skills are required to manage multiple priorities, coordinate schedules, and ensure the smooth day-to-day running of performance services.
Collaboration is central to this role. The post holder will work closely with coaching staff, medical teams, and other practitioners to deliver an integrated approach to athlete development. They will be expected to build positive working relationships, communicate effectively, and contribute to a high-performance culture that prioritises athlete welfare, development, and success.
The role also includes maintaining high standards of health and safety, ensuring all sessions are delivered in line with best practice guidelines and organisational policies. The Assistant Performance Manager will support the creation of a positive training environment that encourages motivation, accountability, and continuous improvement among athletes.
Candidates must hold a Level 3 qualification recognised by REPs or CIMSPA, demonstrating a solid foundation in fitness instruction and coaching principles. A proactive approach to professional development is expected, with a willingness to stay current with industry trends, research, and best practice in strength and conditioning.
Overall, the Assistant Performance Manager will play an integral role in supporting the delivery of high-quality performance programmes, contributing to athlete success, and driving continuous improvement within the organisation.
