Applications are invited for an appointment as Lecturer in Children’s Studies in the area of Adolescent Health (Contract Type B) at University of Galway.
Children's Studies at the University of Galway is a highly innovative, interdisciplinary, child-centred area of teaching and research that looks at children and childhood from a holistic perspective. It draws on a broad range of disciplines, including children's literature and culture, the creative arts, education, psychology, drama, law and human rights, history, health, geography, and sociology with the aim of providing students with a broad-based knowledge and appreciation of the social, cultural, and legal frameworks in which childhood is constructed.
The Discipline of Children’s Studies in the School of Education runs two undergraduate programmes in Children’s Studies—Bachelor of Arts with Children’s Studies, taken to degree level with two Arts subjects and Denominated Bachelor of Arts in Children’s Studies—as well as a postgraduate degree, MSc in Adolescent Health. National and international demand for the BA with Children's Studies has risen consistently since the first programme came on stream in September 2008.
The current appointment is in the area of Adolescent Health. Candidates will have a PhD in Children’s Studies in the area of health sciences, social science, or a cognate discipline, with a demonstrable focus on children’s and adolescents’ health. The appointee must also have relevant prior teaching and administrative experience at third level in an area relevant to Children’s Studies, and have a record of child-centred research, commensurate with Lecturer above the bar. The appointee with contribute to teaching on all undergraduate years of the Children’s Studies programmes and contribute to the development and delivery of taught postgraduate modules. The appointee will undertake administrative duties in accordance with the needs of the programmes, such as module, year and programme coordination, and Erasmus/placement coordination.

Salary:
€64,903 to €103,538 p.a (applicable to new entrants effective from January 2011)
(This appointment will be made on the Lecturer scale in line with current Government pay policy)
