About us

The Department of Mathematics at King’s College London is one of five departments within the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences. King’s College London is one of the world’s leading universities, currently ranked among the top institutions globally in the QS World University Rankings. Founded in 1829, it is now home to more than 35,000 students from over 150 countries.

The Department of Mathematics is based at the University’s Strand Campus in central London. Its research spans a wide range of areas across pure and applied mathematics and theoretical physics, with growing strengths in mathematical modelling, data-driven methods, and computational approaches to complex systems.

Research in the department is organised around several research groups, including Disordered Systems, Statistics, Financial Mathematics, and Theoretical Physics. Data science and modelling constitute a key research area within these research groups, which maintain active collaborations both within King’s and with leading international institutions, and contribute to a vibrant research culture including seminars, workshops, and conferences.

About the role

Applications are invited for a Lectureship in Applied Mathematics with a focus on quantitative modelling in the Department of Mathematics at King’s College London. The successful candidate will develop an independent research programme in applied mathematics, mathematical modelling, or a closely related area and will play a key role in strengthening the Department’s research activity while helping to establish a new mathematics degree for the future to be launched in September 2027.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to one or more of the Department’s research groups and to enhance the research profile of the Department through publications, participation in scientific meetings, and collaboration with national and international partners. They will also contribute to teaching and assessment across the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate mathematics programmes and supervise postgraduate research students.

The postholder will play an important role in establishing and developing the quantitative modelling components of the new degree programme, particularly in relation to the use of mathematical and computational approaches to real-world problems.

In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to the wider intellectual and institutional life of the Department through scholarly engagement, collaboration with colleagues within and beyond King’s, and participation in departmental and university activities.
