The University of Manchester invites applications from candidates with a PhD in public health, (occupational) epidemiology, data science, social science, health economics, statistics or equivalent for a research associate position to investigate and evaluate employability services for people with chronic diseases in Greater Manchester.

We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher with a PhD in public health, (occupational) epidemiology, data science, social science, health economics, statistics or equivalent.  The successful candidate will be involved in the evaluation of employability provision services provided by Manchester Foundation Trust and Manchester council including the Work Well and the Get Britain Working’ Economic Activity Trailblazer services. These services provide early intervention to those on long-term sick leave or those who are currently economically inactive, as evidence shows this is the most effective way of helping people to stay in work or go back to work.  You will work closely with researchers at the University of Manchester with an expertise in (occupational) epidemiology, health economics and service evaluation together with policy makers in Greater Manchester to evaluate these important services.  The project is a mixed methods project including analyses of quantitative data obtained as part of the service evaluation.  You are also expected to conduct interviews and focus groups with service participants and others involved in the service provision and analyse the data.

What will you get in return:

  • Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
  • Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
  • Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
  • Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status.  All appointments are made on merit.
