The School of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Health at the University of Wollongong in Dubai is committed to delivering high‑quality, research‑informed education that addresses contemporary societal, psychological, and health‑related challenges.

The School fosters an interdisciplinary and student‑centred academic environment, combining strong theoretical foundations with applied perspectives and professional relevance. With an expanding portfolio of programs, including the emerging Bachelor of Psychological Science, the School is focused on building academic capacity that supports teaching excellence, research productivity, and meaningful engagement with industry and community stakeholders.

About the Role

UOWD invites applications for Assistant Professor position in Clinical Psychology or related areas as part of the expansion of our new Bachelor of Psychological Science.

This role is balanced across teaching and research, with a full teaching load and opportunities to contribute to curriculum development, research output, and program governance.

The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping undergraduate psychology education at UOWD while contributing to research‑informed and industry‑engaged academic culture.

Teaching Responsibilities

The appointee will be expected to teach across a range of undergraduate psychology subjects, which may include:

  • PSYC251 – Psychopathology
  • PSYC324 – Assessment & Intervention
  • PSYC361 – Child Development
  • PSYC325 – History and Philosophy of Psychology
  • PSYC326 – Design & Analysis

Teaching responsibilities include:

  • Delivery of high‑quality undergraduate teaching
  • Supervision of undergraduate dissertations
  • Teaching research methods and statistics
  • Contribution to assessment, moderation, and academic quality assurance

Research Expectations

The successful candidate will demonstrate an active and developing research profile, evidenced by:

  • A minimum of four peer‑reviewed journal publications within the last five years
  • Publications indexed in Scopus and/or Web of Science
  • Engagement with research‑informed teaching
  • Willingness to contribute to interdisciplinary or practice‑based research initiatives

Grant funding, while desirable, is not mandatory for this role.

Industry & Practice Engagement

Clinical or applied professional experience is preferred, with:

  • Ideally at least two years of post‑graduate professional experience
  • Experience gained in clinical practices, centres, or hospitals
  • Evidence supported by references or professional body records
  • Experience obtained within the past five years

This role values strong connections between academic teaching, research, and professional practice.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Selection Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • PhD in Clinical Psychology or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Ideally a minimum of three years’ teaching experience in higher education
  • A demonstrable research and publication track record
  • Ability to teach across multiple psychology subjects
  • Experience teaching research methods and statistics
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Candidates not meeting these criteria will not progress to interview.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience supervising undergraduate or postgraduate research projects
  • Understanding of psychology practice within contemporary professional contexts
  • Capacity to contribute to program and university governance
  • Experience working in international or multicultural academic environments

Compensation and Benefits

The University offers an expatriate package, which is an attractive tax-free salary. The expatriate package includes six weeks of paid leave per year, annual flight allowance and private medical insurance for the employee and eligible dependents, life and disability insurance, and education allowance for dependents. The University is located in Knowledge Park, Dubai and has excellent teaching, learning and research facilities as well as access to Library resources that meets international standards.
