About the role

We are looking for a proactive, organised and highly motivated Project Manager with experience in supporting business operations processes to join our friendly team within a vibrant, research-focused school.

In this role, you will support the delivery of projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of Professional Services support across the School.

The postholder will work with the School Manager and other school staff, engaging with staff across the faculty and other directorates, where applicable to:

  • Map core processes and create Standard Operating Procedures to ensure consistency and clarity for all stakeholders
  • Define current activity, stakeholder roles and responsibilities, identify and address barriers to provide a basis for continuous improvement in line with Faculty projects
  • Work with the School Technical Manager and School Manager to develop local induction processes, learning from good practice in other parts of the Faculty and university and integrating the School’s process with the wider induction processes across the faculty and college
  • Connect with and contribute to the Faculty’s transformation programme to ensure delivery of improvements that are relevant and operational in the School and more widely in the Faculty
  • Manage key projects within the School to deliver strategic aims

This post is ideal for someone who excels at multitasking, project delivery and managing a range of complex workflows. Knowledge of project management and/or continuous improvement methodologies, and software, would be beneficial.
The post offers individuals a wide variety of experience in an environment where your skills in problem-solving and stakeholder engagement will thrive.

This role is available as a full-time post (35 hours a week). We will consider applications from candidates interested in part time arrangements (25 hours a week or more), and you will be offered a fixed term contract or secondment for 12 months.

Following the training period, this post is available as a full time on campus post, a hybrid working post (with 60% on campus 40% remote working), or with flexible working in agreement with the line manager.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Significant knowledge, gained through experience, of a range of Higher Education operations and systems – including HR, finance, research and/or education
  2. Experience of managing/supporting transformation or change projects in a higher educational setting
  3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to convey specialist and complex information verbally and in writing to a wide variety of audiences
  4. Ability to work independently, proactively and as part of a multi-faceted team
  5. Excellent numeracy and experience of using analytical skills to inform strategic decisions and procedure
  6. Excellent task management skills and ability to work under pressure in a busy environment with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  7. Experience of producing reports, documents and information for a variety of stakeholders
  8. Advanced IT skills with experience of working SharePoint, MS forms, PowerApps and/or process mapping software such as Visio, Miro or Mural

Desirable criteria

  1. Professional qualification and practical application of this knowledge in Project or Change management (e.g. Sigma, Lean) with a record of delivering transformation
  2. Experience of developing automated workflows
  3. An understanding of the higher education environment, the challenges and effective solutions to these used within the sector.
