John Radcliffe Hospital Experimental Medicine Clinical Research Facility, Churchill Hospital

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Research Fellow to join the Translational Gastroenterology and Liver Unit (TGLU), University of Oxford. This role will lead on the implementation and delivery of an exciting experimental medicine research programme performing GI human immune challenges, specifically performing gluten challenge studies in coeliac disease. This is a great opportunity to be involved in clinical and translational research, develop skills in clinical trials, and learn laboratory techniques. The role would be an excellent foundation for a higher research degree.

The post-holder will work with the PI (Michael FitzPatrick) within the TGLU, in collaboration with the Experimental Medicine Clinical Research Facility (EMCRF), and the Fullerton Group. The primary role will be to set up and deliver a novel experimental medicine clinical study in coeliac disease, studying the mucosal immune response to gluten challenge using cutting-edge genomic and proteomics techniques. 

The clinical research fellow will lead in study recruitment, and perform study visits. They will either support or perform upper GI endoscopies (depending on prior clinical experience), and contribute to collection and processing of research samples. They will lead in study data collection, analysis and write-up, and will present results at local and national meetings. It is expected that they will contribute substantially to manuscripts for publication.

The post-holder may also contribute to other clinical trials in coeliac disease and gastroenterology. Depending on their prior training and interests, the post-holder may also have opportunities for clinic or endoscopy work in the Department of Gastroenterology. There may be opportunities to join the gastroenterology on-call out of hours GI bleed rota.

This post will require a medical qualification and licence to practice in the UK, with MRCP or equivalent physician licensing examinations, and prior experience in gastroenterology or relevant clinical experience. It could be suitable as an out of programme research experience (OOPR), or for senior clinical trainees in gastroenterology. Work will be based at the John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals, with opportunities for flexible working.

The post is full time (but part-time 22.5 hours, 0.6 FTE or more will be considered) and fixed-term for up to 12 months in the first instance.
