(Maternity Cover – Fixed Term)

At the University of Southampton, our aim is to change the world for the better, bringing together realms of academic research, creativity and knowledge to have a truly collaborative and ground‑breaking impact. We care about the challenges that humanity faces, and work to support others on a global scale.

In the Office of Development & Alumni Relations (ODAR), our job is to galvanise our community to solve these challenges and make a difference. Would you like this to be your job too?

About the role

We are seeking a Donor Relations Manager (DRM) to provide maternity cover during a strategically significant year for our team. This fixed term role will ensure continuity and excellence in the delivery of our well-established donor relations programme at a time when ODAR is about to launch its first institution wide campaign.

The DRM will take the lead on managing and delivering a mature, high performing programme of donor stewardship, with a particular focus on project managing key activities to recognise and celebrate our donor community and providing excellent line management to our Donor Relations team. You will ensure that our donor relations strategy continues to run smoothly, maintaining the high standards and personalised approach that underpin our success.

Working collaboratively with fundraisers and colleagues across the University, you will oversee the delivery of compelling communications, events and recognition activities that articulate the impact of philanthropy. You will also manage a range of operational processes - from donor data oversight to the creation of bespoke “magic moments” - that contribute to an exceptional donor experience.

About you

You will be an experienced and confident project manager, capable of taking ownership of a complex, multi‑layered programme and ensuring its seamless delivery. With a passion for delivering an excellent donor (or stakeholder) experience, you will be adept at coordinating multiple stakeholders, managing deadlines and maintaining momentum across a busy annual cycle.

You will bring creativity, attention to detail and strong communication skills, along with an enthusiasm for the power of philanthropy and its impact. You will enjoy working collaboratively and will be motivated by the opportunity to play a central role in a strategically important year for our team.

About us

We about to launch our first University wide fundraising and engagement campaign, involving more alumni and supporters with Southampton than ever before. With the full support and investment of University leadership, we are excited for what lies ahead.

We need people with intellectual curiosity and different ideas. We need people with direct experience or transferable skills and the interest and drive to take on a new challenge. We are actively determined to welcome a diverse group of colleagues into our inclusive team. Every day will be different, you will meet incredible people, and the rewards will be huge.

What can we offer you?

We recognise that our staff are at the heart of what we do so we have a generous benefits package. Our hybrid working approach helps you with your work life balance and offers you the chance to split your time between office and home working.

Please contact Emma Smart, Senior Development Manager, on e.smart@southampton.ac.uk for an informal chat. Do contact us if you feel you don’t meet all of the selection criteria.
