About us
The UCL Division of Psychology and Language Sciences is ranked second in the world for psychology (Shanghai Global Ranking, 2022) and UCL is the top-ranked university in the UK for research power in Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience according to the UK’s Research Excellence Framework 2021. The aim of the Neuroscience and Mental Health group at the UCL Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience is to understand the neural and cognitive mechanisms underlying symptoms of mental health problems. We utilise experimental techniques drawn from cognitive psychology, functional neuroimaging, and computational modelling, both in individuals suffering from mental health problems and healthy volunteers.
About the role
The post-holder will carry out research in the area of physical activity relating to mental health, working on the LIFE study, a clinical trial investigating the antidepressant effects of physical exercise. The post-holder(s) will: deliver physical activity interventions; conduct fitness and other physical tests; assist with data entry and processing; help recruit and maintain a secure database of depressed participants; undertake administrative tasks relating to the management of the research, including regular contact with participants.
About you
Candidates will have an academic background in sports science (or a closely related discipline, e.g. physiotherapy) and direct experience in delivering physical activity sessions; a strong interest in physical activity and mental health research; and familiarity with data entry and processing. Candidates will need to be highly motivated, conscientious, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Please note that we will not be able to sponsor a work visa for this position; therefore only candidates with the unrestricted right to work in the UK will be considered.
