*The starting salary and grade for this post depends on skills and experience that candidate will bring to the role.
Applications are invited for the post of a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Nanophysics and Nanotechnology group in the department of Physics at Royal Holloway, University of London.
This will be a key role in the project “Development of the Bloch transistor”, with the Nanophysics and Nanotechnology group at Royal Holloway University of London. This project, funded by UKRI4030, is to develop a new superconducting quantum device, the Bloch transistor. The Bloch transistor is a coherent quantum circuit in which the current can be controlled at the single electron level; it is a source of quantised current. This is interdisciplinary project combining nanotechnology and superconducting quantum device fabrication at SuperFab nanofabrication facility and low noise cryogenic measurement at millikelvin temperatures, including ultra-low temperatures available at the London Low Temperature Laboratory within Royal Holloway.
The candidate will join a team of investigators at Royal Holloway, where this post will be based, working with research partners at the UK National Physical Laboratory and the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (Jena).
You will have prior experience in nanofabrication, including Electron Beam Lithography, thin film deposition, dry and wet etching. You will have prior experience in low temperature technology, including dilution refrigeration, low noise measurement in DC and microwave range. You will have computer programming skills, and experience of simulation packages. You will be a good communicator and the ability to work in a collaborative team, with national and international partners.
