BRITISH UNIVERSITY VIETNAM (BUV)

British University Vietnam (BUV) is the first and only international university in Vietnam to directly award British degrees from the prestigious University of London and other UK universities. BUV is rated a 5 Star university of excellence by the world recognised QS accreditor and is also recognised with a University-wide accreditation from the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).

BUV has three main brand drivers:

  • Offering accredited British and international higher education and training in Vietnam.

Established in 2009, BUV provides teaching for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Employability rates for students are exceptionally high with 100% of graduates from BUV either employed or continuing higher education within 3 months after graduation.

THE GRADUATE SCHOOL

The Graduate School at BUV is entering a phase of strategic growth from its current approximately 50 students, while expanding its portfolio of postgraduate programmes in collaboration with leading UK partners.

Programmes include:

  • MBA (University of Staffordshire)
  • MSc International Business Management (Manchester Metropolitan University)
  • Additional postgraduate programmes under development

The Graduate School is focused on delivering high-quality, practice-oriented postgraduate education, currently with strong emphasis on:

  • international business and responsible management
  • applied learning and industry engagement
  • research-informed teaching and academic skills development

In parallel, the Graduate School is developing the Leadership Institute, focused on alumni engagement, professional networking, and the creation of a vibrant postgraduate community.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

We are seeking to appoint a faculty member in the Business and Management area to support the delivery and development of postgraduate programmes.

The successful candidate will:

  • Act as Programme Lead for MSc International Business Management (MMU)
  • Teach research methods and academic skills at postgraduate level
  • Contribute to teaching across business and management programmes
  • Support alumni engagement, networking initiatives, and Graduate School events through the Leadership Institute

The appointment will be made at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, depending on experience and qualifications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Programme Leadership

  • Act as Programme Lead for MSc International Business Management (MMU)
  • Provide academic oversight and ensure high-quality programme delivery
  • Coordinate teaching teams and ensure alignment across modules
  • Lead programme monitoring, review, and quality assurance processes
  • Liaise with partner institutions (e.g. MMU) on academic matters
  • Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement

Teaching and Learning

  • Design and deliver engaging, inclusive, and practice-oriented learning experiences across postgraduate programmes
  • Lead and/or contribute to modules such as:
    • Research Methods
    • Academic Skills
    • International Business and Management-related subjects
  • Supervise dissertations and research projects
  • Engage with developments in teaching, learning, and assessment
  • Maintain subject expertise through scholarship and/or professional engagement

Leadership Institute Contribution

  • Support the development of a strong postgraduate and alumni community
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of networking events, guest lectures, and industry engagement activities
  • Assist with the organisation and delivery of Leadership Institute events
  • Engage with alumni and external stakeholders to strengthen connections with the Graduate School

Student Support and Experience

  • Provide academic guidance and support to postgraduate students
  • Contribute to student progression, retention, and overall experience

POSITION SPECIFICATION

Lecturer (Academic Level B)

Essential

  • PhD or Doctoral qualification and master’s degree in a relevant discipline from internationally recognised institutions
  • Full professional proficiency in English
  • Evidence of delivering innovative and engaging learning experiences at postgraduate level, particularly in research methods and academic skills
  • Demonstrable experience in curriculum development and programme-level coordination
  • Strong understanding of curriculum design and quality assurance in higher education
  • Experience in supervising postgraduate dissertations
  • Some evidence of high-quality publications and/or a strong pipeline of research outputs
  • Sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in a relevant discipline to contribute to the continuous development of teaching programmes and the provision of learning support
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of equal opportunity issues as they may impact on academic content and issues relating to student needs
  • Clean police record

Desirable

  • Substantial experience in teaching, curriculum design, and quality assurance and enhancement in higher education
  • Evidence of excellent teaching identified by teaching evaluations and peer reviews
  • Experience in working with international student cohorts
  • Experience in programme leadership in a TNE context, preferably involving UK institutions

Senior Lecturer (Academic Level C)

In addition to the criteria for a Lecturer, Senior Lecturers are typically expected to fulfil the following criteria.

Essential

  • Substantial experience ideally (typically 5+ years) in teaching, curriculum design, and quality assurance and enhancement at postgraduate level
  • Evidence of excellent teaching identified by teaching evaluations and peer reviews
  • Extensive programme leadership experience ideally (typically 5+ years), including responsibility for the academic and operational delivery of taught or research postgraduate programmes
  • Demonstrable impact on programme development, quality assurance, and student outcomes
  • Experience in working successfully within UK partnership frameworks
  • Evidence of high-quality research outputs
  • Evidence of engagement with international academic or professional networks, including collaboration in research teams or projects, and emerging recognition beyond the institution

Desirable

  • Experience in working with international student cohorts
  • Experience in contributing to alumni engagement, networking, or community-building initiatives
  • Higher education teaching qualification (e.g. PGCert), recognition (e.g. Fellow of AdvanceHE), or accreditation, or willingness to work towards this
  • Demonstrable ability to lead research projects, win bids and generate income
  • Experience of contextual knowledge (e.g. developed through living and working in Vietnam or Asia)

BENEFITS

  • Highly competitive salary package (plus benefits) for Vietnamese and expatriate candidates depending on qualifications/experience;
    • Salary will be aligned with appointment level and qualifications.
      • Lecturer Track (PhD): USD 65,000 – USD 125,000 per annum
      • Teaching Track (MA): USD 50,000 – USD 100,000 per annum
  • 13th month Tet bonus (Vietnamese candidates);
