The University of Galway welcomes applications for a lectureship in Drama and Theatre Studies, on a specific purpose, part-time basis, in order to cover some of the responsibilities of a staff member who is participating in a funded research project. The successful candidate will teach classes at undergraduate and postgraduate level, offering classes in in at least two of the following core programme areas: playwriting and screenwriting, creative producing, theatre history, and/or performance analysis. The post is part-time (0.3 FTE) being offered as a specific purpose contract and will terminate by reason of the expiry of its specific purpose. It is anticipated that the duration of this assignment will be circa 16 months.
Drama and Theatre Studies, established at the University of Galway in 2014, offers a four-year undergraduate BA in Drama, Theatre and Performance that integrates both practical and theoretical approaches. The discipline also delivers MA programmes and a structured PhD, while contributing to teaching across English, Music, and other related subjects. It is housed in the O’Donoghue Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance, centrally located on the Galway campus. The university is home to one of the world’s most significant archival collections in Irish theatre and maintains formal partnerships with major cultural institutions, including Druid Theatre, the Abbey Theatre, and the Galway International Arts Festival.
The ideal candidate will have university-level teaching experience, or demonstrable ability to deliver excellent university-level teaching as a professional practitioner, in at least one of the following core areas: playwriting, creative producing, theatre history, performance analysis.
Applicants must demonstrate a capacity for independent administrative work, as well as a strong commitment to research, teaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
