Be part of something bigger — where you’ll do meaningful work, grow and progress, be rewarded and recognised, and benefit from our strong commitment to your wellbeing. There are so many reasons to join us.

The University of Edinburgh is a world-class organisation. We look for the best in the field across all disciplines and provide a working environment where academics can develop their careers and passion for their chosen subject area. We offer the full range of academic roles and have a genuine focus on our students performance and wellbeing.

The Opportunity:

Based within our busy Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) Service at the Hospital for Small Animals at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, this ECC internship is the perfect launching pad for those considering further clinical training in this field, as well as those wishing to return to private practice.

The ECC intern will gain extensive clinical experience in managing critically ill patients whilst working alongside board-certified specialists in ECC. The successful applicant will work a combination of days, evenings, nights and weekends within a well-equipped Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Room.

The intern will also be paired with a mentor, to assist with pursuing a research project and guidance on career progression. We also boast a thriving programme of continuing education within the hospital, including dedicated weekly seminars, as well as practical sessions and journal clubs. Candidates must have enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and an ability to function as part of a dedicated team in a busy hospital.

Since the ECC internship started, 80% of interns that underwent the internship have gone on to an ECC residency, and 65% of those are currently ECC specialists.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week), with additional contribution to an out-of-hours rota.
