New College Worcester

Location: Worcester
Salary: £32,916 to £51,048
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent

NCW is the only school of its kind in the UK.  As a nationally regarded non-maintained special school, all the students here have one thing in common which is that they all have a vision impairment.  Aside from that each young person is unique, individual and incredible in their own way.  It is our mission to ensure that each child learning with us is able to reach their own potential, in order to leave NCW as an independent young adult in all aspects of their lives.  The majority of our leavers go on to their chosen University, to further education or to apprenticeships and then on to rewarding and fulfilling careers.

TEACHER OF MATHEMATICS

To enable us to fulfil our mission, we are now seeking an inspirational, creative and passionate professional to join our Maths Department with these goals in mind.

We use a range of different teaching methods, physical manipulatives and online resources to support the needs of the individual learners.  Students are encouraged to be resilient and develop their problem-solving skills.  All students will have the opportunity to access the same high-level knowledge, regardless of previous attainment or additional needs.

We are looking for someone special, who believes that no student should be held back by their SEND needs or their previous experience and who is passionate about maths and delivering the very best knowledge to our students.  Experience of teaching the vision impaired is not a requirement for the post of Teacher of Mathematics at NCW, the College is primarily interested in appointing an effective and experienced teacher who we can support to ensure that materials are made accessible for all our learners.

Essential qualities for this role are to have an open mind, an excitement to develop professionally and a willingness to learn new techniques and skills to adapt your existing talent for teaching to include those with a vision impairment.  If not already qualified, the successful candidate will be keen to undertake a qualification to become a recognised teacher of the vision impaired (QTVI).

The achievement of the QTVI qualification is financially supported by NCW, with additional study support given from timetabled hours

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a highly experienced Maths Practitioner across Key stage 3, 4 and 5.
  • Be an excellent educational leader with detailed knowledge of SEND.
  • Possess an unwavering commitment to promoting the highest standards of teaching and learning across the department, the school and be willing to share their excellent practice on a national level.
  • Have a passion for developing all aspects of Maths teaching and learning.
  • Be a committed team player.
  • Have the ability to engage and inspire students and build excellent relationships with students, their families and staff across the organisation.
  • Demonstrate excellence, both inside and outside the classroom.
The benefits of working at New College Worcester include
  • Working in an inspiring and rewarding place alongside our exceptional students
  • Teachers' Pension scheme
  • Free use of the College swimming pool
  • Free use of the state-of-the-art fitness facilities in our multi gym Fit4Purpose
  • Continual professional development and training opportunities
  • Free on-site parking
  • Great value on-site catering facilities
  • Staff wellbeing package
  • New College Worcester is set in extensive grounds which overlook the Malvern Hill

Interviews: w/c 11th May 2026
