Home to four specialist schools - Applied Social Sciences, Allied Health Sciences, Nursing and Midwifery, and Pharmacy – the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at De Montfort University educates and develops professionals who make a significant difference to lives, health, wellbeing, communities and society. Social Work is an established subject area within the School of Applied Social Sciences. 

Role

As a Senior Lecturer in Social Work, you will have a significant impact on educating the next generation of social workers.  Your responsibilities will include contributing to the teaching, learning, assessment and support of undergraduate and postgraduate social work students. This will include planning and delivering teaching to students and undertaking module/programme leadership and other administrative responsibilities. You will be involved in academic tutorial responsibilities (including placement visits) and dissertation supervision. You will contribute to student recruitment events such as open days and interviews. You will contribute to research, scholarship and knowledge exchange, where applicable. You will build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders and external partners and will work collaboratively with colleagues in the Social Work team, and across the School, Faculty, and University. You will be expected to engage in other duties as reasonably assigned by the line manager.

Ideal Candidate

To be successful as a Senior Lecturer in Social Work, you will have proven academic expertise, including teaching, assessing and supporting undergraduate and/ or postgraduate social work students. For this particular role, we are looking for proven experience of teaching or training in adult social work, specifically in an English legislative context, with applied knowledge of The Care Act, The Mental Health Act and/ or The Mental Capacity Act. 

You will have significant social work practice experience of working with older adults, adults with physical disabilities, adults with learning difficulties and/ or adults experiencing mental health difficulties. You will be able to demonstrate your knowledge of contemporary developments and issues in adult social work and social care. You should have experience of working in partnership with health and social care organisations.

You must be able to work independently and as part of a team. You will contribute to the objectives of the School, Faculty, and wider University.

You will be a qualified social worker registered with Social Work England.
