About us
King’s College London is one of the world’s leading universities, renowned for excellence in education and research. Within Research Management & Innovation, Biological Services provides specialist facilities, technical expertise, and advice to support high‑quality biomedical research involving animals. All work carried out within our facilities is subject to rigorous ethical review, strict regulatory oversight, and a strong commitment to the principles of the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction and Refinement).
About the role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Facility Manager to support the effective day‑to‑day operation of King’s Biological Services Facilities (BSF). Reporting to the Associate Director of Technical Operations, the post holder will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare, regulatory compliance, and service delivery across the facility.
The role involves operational leadership of the BSF, including direct line management of approximately eight technical and auxiliary staff. You will oversee animal husbandry and regulated procedures, ensure compliance with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and Home Office requirements, and promote a strong culture of care within the facility. Acting as a key point of contact for academic and research staff, you will liaise closely with stakeholders to ensure appropriate and efficient support for research programmes.
This is a hands‑on role requiring a high level of technical expertise, sound judgement, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex and highly regulated environment. You will contribute to audits, inspections, ethical review processes, and out‑of‑hours emergency responses where required, while also supporting staff development, training, and continuous improvement.
This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
