Professor/Associate Professor (Teaching) Medical Education & Student Support

This is a senior academic leadership role with strategic responsibility for student support, wellbeing, and academic progression across the MBBS programme. Reporting to the Director of UCL Medical School, you will lead the Programme and Progression Support Team, managing MBBS Tutors and overseeing systems that ensure students succeed within a professionally regulated environment. You will act as Divisional Tutor, contribute to curriculum development, assessment, and quality assurance, and ensure compliance with GMC and institutional requirements. As a member of the senior academic management team, you will shape policy, drive continuous improvement, and build UCL’s national and international profile in medical education and student support.

Appointment details:

  • The appointment is offered on a part-time basis at 0.6FTE/21.9hours either at Associate Professor (Teaching) or Professor (Teaching)
  • Associate Professor (Teaching) appointment (Grade 9) offers a salary range of £68,284 – £76,244 per annum (including London Allowance), pro rata £40,970 – £45,746 (including London allowance)
  • Professor (Teaching) appointment (Grade 10) offers a starting salary from £80,594 per annum (pro rata salary from £48,356), with scope for progression based on experience.
  • The appointment is available from September 2026 and is offered on a permanent basis.
  • This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 40% on site.

About you

You are an established academic leader with a strong track record in medical education, pedagogy, and student support. You will hold a Primary Medical Qualification, a higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent), and a postgraduate teaching qualification (e.g. FHEA), alongside significant experience teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You bring proven leadership and management capability, experience in strategic planning and policy development, and a deep understanding of supporting healthcare students in a regulated environment. With excellent communication and organisational skills, you are collaborative, evidence-driven, and committed to the highest standards of professionalism, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
