Role Purpose

The Associate Dean – Teaching & Learning (Public Health) will provide academic leadership and strategic oversight of Public Health provision. The role focuses on enhancing teaching quality, ensuring academic standards, and driving student success across programmes.

You will play a key role in curriculum development, quality assurance, and academic performance, while supporting organisational growth and maintaining compliance with UK higher education regulatory frameworks.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership in the development and review of the organisation’s portfolio of undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes in Public Health, including the implementation of institutional policies in learning, teaching and assessment.
  • Achieve regulatory, partner and internal benchmarks, ensuring a minimum 90% performance across key academic and quality metrics.
  • Share collective responsibility and act as a positive role model in providing clear and effective leadership, promoting a culture of collegiality, accountability and ambition to deliver academic excellence.
  • Support the development of strong working relationships across departments and delivery locations to foster a collaborative, responsive environment that enhances the overall student experience.
  • Promote innovation and excellence in teaching and learning, maximising the use of digital technologies and resources, with a focus on student engagement, partnership, and students as active contributors to change.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration across the organisation and with relevant internal and external stakeholders to support joined-up working, identify opportunities, and deliver strategic objectives.
  • Work closely with the Senior Management Team within the organisation’s quality framework to ensure an outstanding academic experience for students across undergraduate and postgraduate provision.
  • Contribute to relevant academic committees, boards and working groups, reporting on performance against targets and producing timely and accurate reports as required.
  • Act as a key point of contact for partner institutions, maintaining strong and effective working relationships.
  • Represent the organisation externally to enhance its profile and support the development of strategic partnerships and opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with senior leadership to ensure best practice, innovation and continuous improvement are embedded and shared across the organisation.
  • Support and develop academic staff through ongoing professional development, promoting a research-informed and scholarly approach to teaching and learning.
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring that both staff and students feel valued, supported, and have a strong sense of belonging.
  • Lead the strategic development and continuous review of Public Health programmes to ensure relevance, quality, and alignment with sector expectations.
  • Line manage academic staff within the Public Health provision, supporting their development and ensuring effective delivery of teaching and learning.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained to support programme delivery and student success, addressing resource needs in a timely and proactive manner.

Person Specification 

  • Ideally have 15 years of higher education experience preferably in public or private universities
  • PHD in public health related field
  • Ideally 10 years of experience at a senior leadership level in Higher Education
  • Must have leadership or management level 5 qualification (CMI/ILM) / MA/ MSc
  • Higher Education teaching qualification PGCert/SFHEA
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire academic teams across multi-campus environments
  • Strong track record in curriculum development, quality assurance, and student success initiatives
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A commitment to research-informed teaching, staff development, and inclusion
  • Experience managing budgets, resources, and academic planning in a higher education setting
  • Capacity to represent the institution externally and strengthen academic-industry linkages

  • Salary range: Competitive
  • £5000 relocation allowance

Job Type

  • Full-time, Permanent
  • Basic hours are 9am to 6pm onsite.
  • Evening and weekend work required as appropriate 
  • Trips away from the office are often required
