** Background
The group studies lymphovascular diseases, specifically Primary Lymphoedema, which is clinically and genetically heterogeneous and is caused by defects in the lymphatic system that lead to swelling of one or more limbs or other parts of the body. Our work has focused on the genetic causes of lymphatic failure.
We are seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Scientist, initially until October 2027, funded by an ARPA-H LIGHT (lymphatic imaging, genomics, and phenotyping technologies) grant, a multicenter study which overall purpose is to accelerate transformative advances in lymphatic medicine.
** Responsibilities
You will be based at City St George’s University London (Tooting Campus) working in the Lymphovascular Research group. The role will involve investigating and determining causativeness of gene mutations for primary lymphoedema, using mainly site-directed mutagenesis, cell culture methodologies, antibody-based protein detection and imaging techniques.
** Person Specification
You will have a background in cell biology and molecular biology, ideally with proven work experience at senior level in the field of biomedical research. Detailed knowledge of the lymphatic system will not be essential, but a good understanding of the lymphatic system biology and function will be highly valuable. An academic interest and initiative which allows for development of the lymphatic molecular genetics programme at CSG will be advantageous.
Whilst prior knowledge of the lymphatic system is not essential, a good understanding of disease genetics will be highly valuable. Strong organisational, time-management and communication skills are essential for the role. In order to help to develop the programme of genetics at City St. George’s, we particularly welcome applicants who can demonstrate academic ambition, initiative and independent thinking.
